Portsmouth is the United Kingdoms premier maritime port
and, with it’s seaside resort of Southsea, a world-class visitor
destination. There is everything in Portsmouth to keep you entertained
and interested. The City of Portsmouth has been inhabited since about
300AD, by the Romans, who built the nearby castle
in Portchester, however, most of its illustrious history starts in
the 12th century. The City is crammed with history, a must visit is to Flagship
Portsmouth where you can climb aboard the first Iron warship, HMS
Warrior, and Nelsons flagship, HMS Victory. Also splendidly preserved is
Henry VIII’s prize and joy, the Mary Rose that can be viewed in a
specially designed warehouse. But Portsmouth isn’t just about ships, Southsea
Castle, built in 1544 to protect Portsmouth from the French still guards
the entrance to the city. The D-Day
Museum
commemorates and explains an occasion in Portsmouth's past which was
of mammoth international importance - the Allied invasion of Europe on 6 June
1944. If you just want to let your hair down then The
Pyramids
Centre is the place for you – a water park, set in a tropical
paradise with water flumes, wave machine and poolside restaurants –
all at a tropical 29 degrees C. A Night Out The Portsmouth nightlife matches, in every way, things to
do during the day. The Kings
Theatre, built in 1907 is always a family favourite and the Guildhall
hosts many international stars and shows.
